Tom,  I know what your talking about,  Spontaneuos reproduction.  Your right, that's a true clone.  But selfing is not cloning.  In selfing you are actually dividing the paired chromosomes and the genetic material.  So even in selfing you'll be separating the dominant and recessive genes and re-pairing them up with each other(not repairing but re-pairing).
