Happy Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran's Day
I wrote this poem after getting a note about a story I wrote about a friend
who is a Fire Fighter and went to New York to help on 09-11.
My on line friend said that she had one son in Iraq and one who had just came
home. She told me how she hurt that her husband who had fought in Viet Nam
never got the love we gave the Fireman that were lost and the ones that tried
their best to try to find their fallen brothers and sisters. I knew the feeling
first hand. A close friend who died a few years ago told me of the same
feeling after coming home from Viet Nam.
A new found friend writes a daily page for Vet's and sent my story out today.
Hope you enjoy

A Proud Soldier
B
B He stood and said good bye with tears in their eyes.
Thinking to himself how he hoped that he was not giving his sons their last
good-byes.
B
His sons had chosen the same path as their dad.
They chose to defend our country from all that was bad.
He again had given his best, the best that he had.
He hoped that they remembered loss of his friends
and how it made him sad.
B
He was giving the same gift to America their father had gave 30 years before,
back then our country had forgotten about WW1, WW2 and the Korean War.
B
You see it had been over so long since an act of war touched our shore.
America had forgotten all the died for us before.
B
Then came September 11th and America again remembered our heart.
B The terrorists thought freedom would die
and thought it could tear all of us apart.
B
We all stood together and remembered all in our past.
He hoped we would never forget
and the feeling would last.
B
Our heart was our heroes that we didnbt know their names.
Without them our country would still not be the same.
B
This soldier came home with no fan fare.
He had done his best to help us and somehow no one cared.
B
This hero stood proudly as his sons went off to war.
He hoped things would be different
and their love for our country we would adore.
Thirty years ago that is what he fought for.
B

Thank You for all you have done.
B
