Anti theory test
Good ole Dan Carlson was asking the question why do we bury vine? That9s
the same question I thought last season as I tried to see what would happen
if you didn't and if I didn't prune much . I didn't spray fungicide or
pesticides as I wanted to see if there was any resistance in all the
different genetics.
When we look at our theory we bury the vine to hold it down and to gain more
rooting. This also activates the top root node more roots the better right?
Well I always thought that. But then something didn't add up folks were
pruning plants so small that "the more buried root the better" was being
challenged. They actually were burying much less. Its appears that the
plant seems to compensate . Perhaps the top node is a defense mechanism if
the vine does a 180------in the wind. Heck who knows??...need more tests
Well I had the same kind of year I always do average but with less work. I
am a little puzzled at how much a role these top nodes contribute to the
whole picture as my results seem some what the same ole same ole. But we
are lucky as we don't have the vine borer here in Calif. Which burying would
help deter..Mb
