New British all-time record
Fellow Growers,
I came across a great website when I was doing some research on the Internet today.
http://www.merebrow.com/home/mbgp/
Check it out... it has some stats on the new British all-time record, quite a few nice pictures of the pumpkin and also some growing info.
The old record was only 816 pounds so the 912 pounder almost beat it by 100lbs!
The 912lbs record pumpkin was grown by James O'Hanlon and Liam Cupit. Congratulations to the growers! Awesome accomplishment!!!
The mother seed of the 912 O'Hanlon-Cupit 04 was the 1301.5 Eaton 03.
The 1301.5 is a 842 Eaton 02(f) X 1236 Eaton 02(m) cross.
Both the 842 and the 1236 are crosses between the world famous 723 Bobier 99 and 846 Calai 99.
The 842 is a 846 X 723 cross and the 1236 is a 723 X 846 cross.
The 842 Eaton has already produced 9 pumpkins over 1000lbs, including the new world record pumpkin and the 1236 has produced 4 over 1000lbs.
So, there are some great genes combined in the 1301.5 Eaton 03!
Although the 912 pound British record pumpkin was grown in a greenhouse I must assume that the 1301.5 can handle the cooler weather a lot better than some of the other seeds out there.
The 1301.5 itself has already produced one over 1000lbs, the 912 pounder and two more over 800lbs in its first year! The 1301.5 should be an awesome seed for everyone in a cooler climate who does not pay too much attention to the colour of the pumpkin as long as it is big and heavy!
Grow 'em big!
Greetings from Germany,
Martin Reiss
PS: I already sent this three times since yesterday and it didn't show up... there is a problem with the list!
