Glenn,

For some growers there are other characteristics of importance besides the weight. I'd rather have a round and beautiful orange pumpkin than one of those "big heavy blobs that look like cowpies" that might be a few pounds heavier.
This year I had a very orange and beautiful pumpkin off the 801.5 Stelts that weighed 495lbs. I loved it considerably more than my 658lbs German record pumpkin from 2002 that was one of those ugly, white wheel shaped ones.
I'm growing AGs for the fun of it and so I grow whatever gives me the greatest pleasure, the beautiful orange ones.
