I've just posted my annual listing of Top Proven Seeds for
heavy offspring at the following link:
http://home.pacbell.net/diana_do/topseeds.htm
This table shows all seeds that have produced at least one
pumpkin over 1,200 lbs. It also shows the total number of
1,000+ pumpkins each seed has produced. This year 16 new seeds
were added to this honor roll and the list has expanded to 43
seeds. These seeds I consider the top PROVEN seeds for heavy
offspring. Many other seeds out there including a number from
this year are loaded with potential.
A few observations from the list:
1. The 723 Bobier remains as the top producing seed of all
time.
2. The 842 Eaton has moved up to second place.
3. The 1068 Wallace and the 1370 Rose, both 845 Bobier crosses
have moved into the top 10.
4. Virtually every seed that has produced a pumpkin over 1,200
pounds has the 723 Bobier, 846 Calai, 845 Bobier or the 898
Knauss in it's genetic background. Many are direct crosses
between these four. When looking for good unproven crosses to
plant, keep this in mind.....
This list was compiled primarily from the AGGC database. Many
thanks to Mike Nepereny for this fabulous resource.
