Steve,
Use both and I use about three heaping F-150 Truckloads per planting site
although it is mixed with sawdust and some straw, 1/3 fresh manure, 2/3
other organic material such as straw, grass, shredded leaves, leaves and
more leaves, especially maple (about 8" worth over the entire planting area,
till in fall and again in spring and voila), they will decompose over the
winter. Be generous. I'd put the fresh horse manure in the pits with 2/3
organic stuff , mix and till well. Put the older cow manure around the patch
about 4" thick and till in. That's the secret to these bad boys. Don

I have access to dried cow manure and lots of fresh horse manure. Any
advice
which to use in my pumpkin pits next year AND how do I accelerate the
rotting
of the horse manure over the winter here in Vermont?
