Hey, Tim!
You will still get your free seeds.
They will all be females, as there are no male seeds.
Where male/female sex comes into the program is when your plant is
covered with blossoms. Some will be males, and some females.
You deserve both, and you will have both.
The males will generally arrive first and closer to the 'stump,' where
your vine comes up from the ground.
After awhile, females will arrive.
They will have little round bellies beneath the blossom, and they will
lack that long powdery magic wand in the center that is a feature of
the males.
When the female blossom opens, you'll want to pick a few of your male
blossoms and carry them carefully to the female and push them all into
and around that pretty round crown-like feature on the female blossom,
shaking gently until the pollen is spent.
Next, here's a trick I learned from Mr Al Eaton. Take a large Dixie
cup and cover your female for a day or two until she closes up. That
way you KNOW who the father of the seeds is.
Seventy three point five is respectable for your first try. I bought
my first seeds at the Tru-Value store, planted in a pot and got a 17-
pounder. So you're way ahead of me out the gate.
Good luck for next year!

my expense? So what was the nomenclature rules about? Please don't
kick me
off this site, I really want to learn how to grow a giant pumpkin.
Will you

May I join in on the free seed give away? And everyone can laugh
at my
expense now, but can you send me male and female seeds ? I didn't
know to
plant male and female seeds, and I guess I was just lucky to have a
few
bees
visit my vine ! Maybe I should read a book too.

OK, here it is. Home Depot and your local garden shop are more
than
likely
a very poor place to find your AG seeds. If they even are AG's
they
are
more than likely open pollinated, so who knows what you are really
going
to
get. If you need good seeds just ask. I'd be happy to give some
of
mine
away. What do I need 300 seeds for. (Can you imagine growing
300 of
these
in one year?) If anyone wants seeds let me know. I'd be happy to
unload
a
few...dozen. ;)

I just grew my first pumpkin from home depot seeds, weighing in
at 73
lbs.
...
Be careful with your expectations of grand growth with the
HomeDepot
Dill Ags. Last year I planted the same seed and produced medium
sized
fruit. This year I tried the Dill Ags from my local garden/seed
store
and it produced only a 115 pounder.
...
I bought the Dill Atlantic Giant
seeds at Home Depot 2 times now and have yet to actually
try... I
get
nervous about failure.
I have handled the seed from about 230 different Atlantic Giant
fruit,
and
I'm fairly convinced that the seed sold at such stores isn't really
Atlantic
Giant at all. The seeds are just far too small to be real AG. I
first
became aware of this when I grew my first (puny) one from Harris
Seed
"Atlantic Giant" seeds.
There's plenty of "real" seed available for free from fellow
growers.
