TerryLynn,
Some light thoughts regarding your serious questions.
Weight seems to be the only ultimate measure since the shapes vary so
widely.
As for why the 700# plus pumpkins don't look much bigger than 400#'rs,
remember you are dealing with a sphere. I'm no mathematician but for an
example do the math just for the area of a 3" circle vs. a 4" circle. A 4
inch circle isn't much bigger than 3 " but the area of the 4 incher is
considerably greater. The same is true for a sphere only greater.
As for the number of seeds. I removed about 550 seeds from my approximate
200# AG and about 315 seeds from an approximate 50# AG. There might be
something to your thoughts that big pumpkins don't necessarily produce
super large number of seeds. Of course this is just a 2 pumpkin sample so
it really means nothing.
I kept the 200#'r seeds since it was my biggest but I also keep the 50#'r
since it had a nice shape and good color.
So I guess the bottom line is I want it all, award winning size and
traditional shape and color. I also want to win the lottery.
