I'm using a 150 sq. ft. raised bed on a city lot. It's surrounded by
concrete walls about 1 ft. high, and I had to move some azaleas to convert
it into a pumpkin patch. The vine took over the adjoining lawn, and I
added a lot of temporary soil on the lawn for mounding and secondary root
formation.
My results were good - a 300 pounder.
At our local weighoff one grower claimed his 380 lb. pumpkin was grown on
a mere 50 sq. ft. raised bed surrounded by sawdust!
We urban growers may never break any world records, but we can still grow
some pretty good-sized pumpkins.
