Pruning the plant seems to be extremely beneficial to the pumpkin. Most
set a circle 30 ft+ in diameter and prune the tips as they reach there
mark... ,some prune everyother secondary and all tertairies. Some say this
is too heavy of pruning.......what techniques or experiements have folks
tried? I was thinking of trying a more linear plant where i let
secondaries get 6 ft long then cut and bury. I think this will help the
main get the push it needs to get bigger...anyway last year i went the
other way with secondaries 18 to 20ft long this seem to take from the
main........any comments or different styles out there????

Hi. Secondary vines make up 70% of the plant. I prune none of these off.
All my teritary vines go. I don't go by the size of the plant i go by the
date. Everything is pinched and pruned by the end of july.
