Dear Mr. Miesner,
Many apologizes for not spelling your last name correctly. It won't
happen again Marven.
My plot is small but has soil equal to the Nile Delta. I am trying
to figure out how to grow two plants not just one. Question, just how
small an area can one manage to grow a decent AG? Maybe the idea is to
grow them both towards each other until they intrude and then keep the
best one. One plant is just too risky, but don't have the luxury to buy
farms with ponds and cattle nearby. I also have two young boys, a wife,
a 1st grade soccer team to coach, a home, two cars and a cat, the PTA,
my art work, my job, plus more, most of which comes before pumpkins. I
get about l hour each work day, at lunch, to work on my patch. That is
it. You fellows are in a different dimension then myself. But none the
less I am the Pumpkin King of DC , a title, I believe that eludes most..
Speaking of titles, how can a person weigh-off a pumpkin at a GPC sight,
get in the top-10, set a record for his state (district), and not be on
any GPC statistics list? Something seems peculiar. I think that it would
be fair to the rest of the contestants who were in the top-10 at Altoona
to be listed like nearly every other sight, so that they could enjoy
seeing their pumpkin in the statistical lists, i.e. "top GPC pumpkins by
weight". Also I would like to suggest for next year a simple certificate
of participation for all contestants making their weights official and
giving everyone something to take back home for their scrapbooks.
Topsfield does this . I think Wiberg could send you a sample. I do
appreciate everything you have advised me on. I think that you only get
the first year with a mentor and then your on your own getting help from
your pumpkin buddies where you can get it. Thanks anyway. I still have
some goodies to send you from the weigh-off. You can expect them soon.
