Throwbacks

Here is a little story for those who are interested in AG genetics. The tale
is ok'd by Bill Greer and comes to me from his friend Jim Ives.

A seed from the 1006 Greer 96,grown by Bill's neighbour,produced a 596 pound
squash that won a prize at Port Elgin,it was "100% green".

So what is happening here?In checking the 1006 pedigree I see that 4
generations back one of the eight ancestors was the World Record 821
Stellpflug 90 squash. There had not been a green one between the 821 ancestor
and the 1997 squash.

This is the only case where I have heard of the famous 1006 producing a
green one but I think it is just an interesting example of what can happen
occassionally with AG genetics.

Any other interesting examples out there?----------------Al Eaton
