John,...... mate, I think John Mac has given you some sound advice.
But....I think your problem is your children.
Teach them the difference between a pumpkin plant and
a Christmas tree. Sounds like they have decorated the wrong thing.
Wait until it's dark and if your plants flash different pretty colours
then you'll know what to do.
Then you better un-bury the branches on your tree.
