Goodbye Spring - Hello Summer.

Sunday is the last day of Spring and so Monday is the first day of
Summer. Time to really get going on the growth I guess.

The snow has all but disappeared off the top of the mountain and I have
been watch small avalanches slipping down the side this morning. The
main runner of #1 pumpkin (Fred) is now about 4 feet long and tendrils,
farinose flora and new runners appearing. #2 plant (Wilma) is a bit
smaller but is only starting to run now.

I will start a feeding programme of SMALL amounts of fertiliser, liquid
and artificial. I have included the pumpkins on the same spray programme
as that of the Roses and Rhododendrons - ie a general purpose
insecticide/fungicide called 'Super Shield' every two weeks.

Watering occurs each morning before the sun gets up and I have convinced
the cats (Porky and Harry) not to sleep in the glass enclosure by
putting up a sign that says "No cats allowed". The Glass enclosures
(especially Fred's) is being moved outwards quite often now and another
week and I suspect it will be too small to be effective.

The Christmas rush has started here at work and I have been very busy
organising the opening of the swimming pools in the local towns. We do
not have thanksgiving or Haloween for that matter. BUT - we do have the
Queens Birthday and Labour Day. I am away for a week (maybe less) so I
will bid you adieu. In Australian that means "see yer later sport".
Oddly enough, in the NZ vernacular it is "Hooray" (I never could work
that one out).
Toodle Pip and have a good weekend.
John.

Have a 'Parky' day!
