Hello Allan and Pumpkin Friends,
This weekend I went to a Local Farm and loaded my
son-in-laws' truck with cow manure. Today, I rented a tiller
and went to work. I used Grass clippings, leaves, one bag
of Lime (suggested from a ph test as you reccommended I should
have taken) and tilled my 15'x40' foot patch in my yard. We tilled for
about 2 hours.
I dropped about 5 lbs. of winter rye into the fine mixed soil and
watered. This is the first time I ever planted winter rye. How often
should I water? Should I use an insect preventer at this time? Is
there anything else I should be doing at this time?
I think tomorrow night I'm going to gut my pumpkin. I've read
about the many different ways to prepare the seeds for drying.
I'd like to use your method of drying. Please explain!
At Durham Fair you told me the roots need lots of sun. Well,
this is going to cost me a good bundle to have my trees trimmed.
Oh yea, My wife is a Lunch Lady at an elementary school. I took
my 90 pounder, which my children carved a face into it's shell and
displayed it for the children. My wife also had a guess the weight
contest for three lunch waves with prizes. Good Time!
Well thanks for your interest and hope everything is going well
for you in durham.
