     When i said mottled, what i was trying to get accross, is that it
was very very very cantelouped, unlike the other one which was smooth
skinned.  it didn't have any mosaic.

Perhaps the ugly mottled pumpkin had a little mosaic.
In addition just as all siblings do not look alike or grow alike, it is
possible that growing conditions might have been different even though
the plants were side by side.
There are lots of variables from micronutrients, pollution elements to
insects and wind that will cause dissimilarities
