Hello all,
Some of you on the list may have received seed from Joseph Mroszczyk in
the last few weeks. I too received some and my first reaction was "no way."
I finally spoke to this gentleman on the phone and asked him several
questions. He seems to be very passionate about this sport and he was very
forthright with my inquiry.
Yes, he did grow 150 plants last year although his NH plot must have
looked like a jungle.
Yes, he did grow many big pumpkins, however they are estimated weights,
arrived at by the circumference method.
Yes, he did hand pollinate his plants and took precautions to isolate the
flowers from cross pollination.
No, he did not go to any weigh off site this year. The closest was Collins
and he indicated that he was not happy with that site. I strongly urged him
to weigh in his largest next year so they can become official weights.
He is a member of the PNWGPC and the OSLG. The seed that he has grown
reflects that.
He said that many days he would get up at sunrise to work his patch in NH
and he wouldn't get in till sunset. His brother and nephew helped him in
his NY patch.
This gentleman does not own a computer so he has no access to e-mail and
he wasn't aware of the inquirees being made about him. When I spoke to him,
he had been out working his patch to get it ready for next year and yes, he
is again going to grow a lot of plants but not as many as this year.
I hope that answers some of the questions about this gentleman that you
have asked.
