Re: Ironite
Hi gang,
Commercial Pumpkin Season and Halloween are over now so it's back to the
list a little more.....Oh I forgot.......time to make apple jack! Anyway ,
just a note on Ironite or any other micronutrient complex. Before searching
for the magic bullet, a word on micronutrients. Get a detailed soil analysis
including micronutrients on your garden soil. Check to see if your
micronutrients are in fact deficient. It is not all that common to have
gross micronutrient problems in field soils ( especially ones that have
already had doses of compost, manure, etc. If your test comes back with
acceptable micronutrient levels, you will get no added growth response by
adding Ironite or any other micronutrient complex to the soil. If you find
one or two micronutrients are on the low side, correct them, not the others.
If your soil test comes back with adequate iron but is low in magnesium and
sulfur....add epsom salts from your grocery store for example. I'm not
familiar with Ironite, but from the sounds of it, the major ingredient is
iron pyrite ( made up of iron and sulfur)...it would be slow release. If you
have iron and sulfur missing in your soil, this would probably do the trick.
If your Iron and Sulfur are OK, adding more won't accomplish anything.
