About the bottom being counted. I had a very mottled pumpkin, which was a
pumpkin because the judges said so. It was about 50/50 but started out
yellow and became half and half. The "bottom" was all yellow at the weigh
off. But hey, I could have stood it on its blossom end and presto, all that
yellow now counts and is not on the bottom. End of controversy. And has
anyone else had their pumpkins start out green. All of my big max pumpkins
start out green and then as they grow turn into a beautiful orange.

Brett,
Hope you get better soon!!!!! scary! I like what you said. Trying to
keep this discussion non- emotional......and bias aside......so we can
brainstorm some good solutions to that subjective ruling.
HEREs THE MAIN PROBLEM. WE TEND TO ASSOCIATE SQUASH WITH THAT HORRIBLE
STUFF OUR MOTHERS OVER COOKED AND FORCED US TO EAT. DINNER WOULD DRAG ON
UNTIL OUT CAME THE TIMER....I had my ways of getting rid of that squish
only too be haunted in nightmares of my pumpkin getting greenish mottle
and a huge clock tower ticking away..... orange is a cheery experience
halloween and candy. These associations are going to take years to put
them in perspective. As agroup of growers we should be able to find some
solution we can vote in. The other ruling is not sound enough....do you
count the bottoms in the percentage........i think your right this
looseness frustrates folks and feeling get bent who needs it..........there
got to be an answer......brock
