Re: pumpkin pie


Hi, all.

Have to jump in on this one. I recently spoke to a farmer's rep in Turlock, 
CA whose several hundred acre field of pumpkins was destined for the 
processing plant. 

Imagine driving along a highway and seeing a pumpkin field that goes on and 
on, pumpkins as far as the eye can see in either direction. This prompted me 
to stop and inquire at the "stand" that was set up to sell jack o'lanterns. 
They obviously did not grow this huge field for Halloween sales.

Given the stringent labeling laws, I would doubt that a canner could pack 
squash into a can and label it pumpkin. Seems to me that the FDA or some 
other watchdog org would pick up on that one.
