Questions and answers???

This is a slack time of year for most pumpkin growers. We are in a
reflective stage (except for the southern hemisphere and southern
states)as to what we did right or wrong and what we will change next
year. But if you have produced a pumpkin over 800 lbs., then you are
certainly doing something right. Perhaps you would like to share some of
your thoughts with us, basicly stating what has worked for you or what
you will not try again. On this list there has been talk of soil
additives such as cat food, dog food, zoo doo, volcanic ash, etc.. I
know, for instance, that Bill VanIderstine produced an 862 lber this
year which was grown in fox manure and mushroom compost and everything
else that he grew in this combination was a winner. We all have access
to different forms of fertilizers but are there any that have not worked
for us or others that should be given another try. What kind of seeds
are we searching for, ones that float when we are cleaning them after
they have been removed from our pumpkins? Are lighter coloured or larger
seeds the ones we should be planting next year? How about a small
electrical generator to produce perhaps a magnetic field around our
pumpkin or to create conditions similar to those found after a
thunderstorm? There are many questons and with the help of this list and
Don Langevin's books, we have answers, perhaps with the help of great
growers we can go one step further. Perhaps someone has an idea that
needs testing and some of us "wanna be 800lb.growers" could help out by
following predetermined instructions next year in our patches. We've all
come to a certain level of expertise and need that little extra to bring
us one step further and if something makes sense, than maybe we'll try
it, after all that is what has brought us this far. This may also
encourage 800+ lb. growers to feel as if they can get involved in this
newsgroup again, rather than being frustrated on the side lines
listening to personal attacks by growers on each other......Ken
