Hello all, I really appreciate all of your help this year with my Burpee Prizewinners. {I'm the one that thought they were AG's until half way through the season!} I harvested my 5 pumpkins tonight, as 2 were getting a little soft. One had the stem rot off but the damage appears to have stopped there. The other is soft, somewhat mushy for about 1/4 inch, on the bottom - I took a knife and scraped off the area and it seems pretty solid under it - my question is: any chance of preserving it until Halloween or will it continue to rot? The area involved is about 8 inches in diameter. I thought about putting lime on it - like the folks around here do their potatoes. I wanted to give it to my parents who are in their 80's. They won't be carving it, just wanted to set it on the porch.
My largest one has circumference of about 80" and is about 18" high - nice even shape and color. I don't know what it weights since it's too small for the "giant " charts, but I definitely can't lift it! And I can lift a 50# sack of feed! So, overall I real happy with my pumpkins and I am definitely looking forward to next season with the real AG seeds! We're already planning an area for a bigger patch that we can till up this fall Jetta in VA
