Dear Ray,
For his efforts, Dave Stelts won the world record
title yesterday, as well as $1500, a gold cigar, a
bottle of pepto bismol, and all the congratulations
and admiration of all his fellow growers, neighbors,
friends, and well-wishers, as well as possibility of
future endorsements. Did you ever hear the adage,
"Money isn't everything?" If I ever grow anything even
close to a record, no matter what the price, I
wouldn't bring it to your weigh-off when I couldn't
bring my hard work back home with me. I had one
pumpkin at 400# and one at 478# yesterday, and upon
leaving(without placing) someone offered me $150.
I didn't sell out for one reason only, it's called
PRIDE! I have never met you personally, but I've heard
a lot about you and your ways. All the money in the
world won't necessarily bring happiness. I think you
may be missing a vital aspect of we, the brotherhood
of pumpkin growers. I witnessed a once in a lifetime
experience yesterday that was "PRICELESS". Thanks for
the memories, DAVE STELTS!!!!!!
