HALF MOON BAY RESULTS
HALF MOON BAY, CALIF., October 9, 2000 -- A beautiful and brilliant orange
940-pound Atlantic Giant grown by Kirk Mombert of Harrisburg, Oregon, took
the top prize today at the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in
Half Moon Bay, California. On a cool and damp morning in this west coast
pumpkin mecca, Mombert overcame seventy contenders, including six past
champions, and Half Moon Bay's deepest field ever, with ten pumpkins
weighing in at over 700-pounds, to take home $4,700 in prize money ($5 per
pound). Mombert's grand champion gourd will be proudly showcased at the
world-famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, Oct. 14-15 from 10 a.m.
