Uh, whoever you are....

DUH. Pumpkins ARE ALL squash. You didn't know that? Pumpkin is just a term we
use for orange squash. They are all c. maxima (field pumpkins are c. pepo,
but you won't get any over 20 pounds).
We categorize what are "pumpkins" at weighoffs by color, mainly, even though
they are really basically the SAME thing.
Now if you want to grow somehting big that looks more like what you would
call a pumpkin, try Burpee's Prizewinner hybrid. It is a c. maxima that has
been bred for color and shape, and they get to be about 200 pounds or so.
They are very dark orange and excellent shapes. As for Atlantic Giants, it
depends on the genetic history. Stuff from the 935 Lloyd line usually is more
yellowish. Other lines have better genetics for color. There are endless
combinations of genetics out there, you should research on what you are going
for in growing pumpkins, and maybe even try breeding in some of your own by
making your own crosses.

Uh huh, well I am a shocking kind of person....

I was only asking you to clarify what you
 > said in your previous email.

O.K., Well that is what I did....

there is nothing here about what I think. only
 > about what you said.

Huh? I have no clue what you just said....

I have in NO way inferred that anyone is a fool. I am

Uh huh, riiiiiiiiight. It was only the main point of your posts, and I bet
you will do it in this email too, let's see....

 > sorry that you feel some kind of feeling of foolishness for growing squash
 > that are not really pumpkins according to YOUR DEFINITION.

HA! I was right! There you go again.
I never said I felt like a fool, nor has anyone else. You are the only one
saying that people should feel like fools. And if you paid any attention to
what I said, then you would know that 99% of all Atlantic Giants, the plants
that I and everyone else on the list grow, *DO* fit MY DEFINITION of
"pumpkin", because they are orange in pigment. ALL of the ones I have grown
fit into the "pumpkin" category. So there you go.

Not my hand, thanks to an incident I had involving a combine, and a monkey
that got loose. I don't know who taught that freaking monkey to operate a
combine. Thanks so much for bringing up this painful memory that I have spent
months in therapy trying to forget.

I read your original email. your definition is that and I quote you
Pumpkin is just a term we use for orange squash.

well I have personally seen many many Atlantic Giant Pumpkins and NONE of
them were ORANGE. I look through the web sites at all of this year's
Atlantic Giant Pumpkins from all around the world. and I have not found a
single ORANGE ATLANTIC GIANT PUMPKIN. therefore I thought that YOU WERE
SAYING THAT NONE OF THE ATLANTIC GIANTS ARE REALLY PUMPKINS BUT SHOULD BE
CLASSIFIED AS SQUASH. What else can I be lead to understand from your email.

My personal feeling is that there just must exist squash of different shapes
that are ORANGE and NOT thought of by anyone as a pumpkin. And then again my
guess is that as YOU SAY there are probably SQUASH that might look similar to
a pumpkin but NOT be ORANGE and to most ordinary people are NOT Pumpkins.
And to most ordinary people therefore do not think of an Atlantic Giant as a
Pumpkin at all. and from what I can read of your email. you do not really
believe that the atlantic giant is a real pumpkin either.

A pumpkin stands up on the bottom and the steam stands up into the air. when
the object rolls over on its side and the sphere gets squashed down. the
object is a SQUASH not a pumpkin. look at all the big ones. they are NOT
orange and they are on their side all squashed down in shape from a sphere.
I think the definition of a pumpkin needs to be looked at and the color very
clearly defined to be very very orange and NOT cream lite to almost white.

anyway I guess I cannot educate you. Only those with an open mind to change
their own mind can come to the truth.

Patrick
