Re: Coming soon
Yo Glenn,
The marrows I had on one plant that I cut off all weighed between
75-82lb and I have the seed from 3 of them as I gave a few away for people
to take seed out for themselves so they know they are getting good seed. This
helps the competitions.I never fed or watered any of the marrows due to our
lousy summer and let the plants get on with it themselves.John Handbury grew
his 135 in a greenhouse so they do like the warmth. He used seed that we all
have over here which is from the same line that Bernard Lavery grew his 108
and Ron Butcher grew his 107.Nobody has a genetic chart for them as we have
all passed the seed around for the last 10 years or so.I do have my own
variety which is lime green in colour which turns yellow when really
ripe. The dark green ones do sometimes turn orange or yellow but some go very
heavily ribbed, what we call crocodiles. These seem to be the heaviest for
their size. The fruit only grow for about 5-6 weeks so you have to beef them
up in this time but you can grow a dozen of them on a plant at the same
time. The 135 had no viable seed we have been told.
