I used Imidacloprid in 99. That's the active ingredient in Merit. My vines
were filled with borers. I cut out 30? 40? 50?? Who knows. I lost count.
It DID kill cucumber beetles and other insects very well, but the borers
were not affected at all by it.

Now I like to use a little when the plants are young, as it prevents damage
at that stage and is less hard on the plants than sprays (sevin or
whatever).

There are a number of other growers who used Merit that year as well. It
was supposed to be the latest and greatest weapon against the borers.
Several of their patches were completely wiped out by borers.
