Yup Scott...thats pretty much my opinion also. Having grown Stellpflug squash,welty squash (again,mostly stellpflug), Lyons squash , Dill squash,Gancarz squash and  my favorite-the Rockwell squash I agree that you can pretty much tell right off that its a squash. I've grown a couple of squmpkins and they were most definitely pumpkins. Ive grown pumpkins that were the brightest orange imaginable. i think a large part of the problem lies in that there are a large number of growers that haven't seen a real squash yet. Perhaps if the prize monies were a bit more "interesting" the real squash in the patch would go to the contest instead of a direct line to the front yard display..............................G
