Scott W-

you just proved my point by:
1) putting an "!" in you "it doesn't matter" sentence.
I KNOW people who WILL get upset- no matter which way
it falls.
sounds to me like you think everything will be fine so
long as everyone else sees it your way... well sorry
they don't.

2) not even wanting to consider the option of:
orange is pumpkin all else is squash.

thanks

Gordon,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I believe "pure orange or pure green growers" is inclusive, including you and I. My sentence is inferring that some group is going to be upset if and when the percentage business is scraped. That someone may very well be me or maybe you. If you prefer orange is pumpkin all else is squash, so be it. Since the Atlantic Giant strain has so much squash bred into it, the majority of pumpkins weighed that I have seen typically are less than all orange. If you prefer an all orange class, go for it. This would certainly lead to a very small weigh-off and if a grower wanted to vie for the big bucks they would be restricted to the seed lines that typically produce orange. The "green is squash all else pumpkin" would keep the lions share of growers by a long shot in the pumpkin class.
I believe this should be put before the GPC steering committee and then hopefully a vote by the members. Whatever the outcome, I would embrace it even if I was not in favor of it.
In closing, as far as I can remember, this site has been a forum for posting pumpkin related topics, which I believe includes opinions (yes, unfortunately mine also). To say that all must agree with me and that I'm not open to another resolution is ridicules.

Let the majority rule, whoever they may be.

Scott W.
