I have never grown a pumpkin but some friends and I gather each year for
a pumpkin carving party for Halloween. I recently purchased what I
thought was a pretty large pumpkin from the farmers market.135 lb. I
guess this is a baby comparatively. If I wanted to try to grow a big
one for next year how would I harvest the seeds? Also what am I likely
to end up with in my soil and weather conditions. I am in Mid-North
Carolina in a very sandy acidic part of the state. It is hot in the
summer 90-100 with high humidity and mild in the winter. I believe we
are through with last serious frost in mid March. The interest started
because of the price of the one this year and the prize at my party for
the largest pumpkin (I bought the winner I think) Also I believe there
might be a market for them at the farmers market... Thanks for any
help.
