An amazing turnouts of heavy hitters came to a very old, small weigh
off, but very quaint, laid back and fun. This contest has grown over the
years, as this year we had an awesome turnout. Try these names on for
size.. Joe Pukos (2 years in a row over 1000 pounds), Andy Wolf (917.4
in Altoona yesterday), Alan Nesbitt (Heavy Hitter, 1000 pounder this
year EXH), Kevin Brown (1007 in Clarence 2 years ago), Tim Bailey (1245
EXH last week), former site champs Daryl Gunderman and myself, Mark
Fortin, and newcomer Bill RObinson.
The top prize was taken by ALan Nesbitt at 948.5 pounds. The funniest
part of the day was the Emcee of the event, who has no clue who these
growers are, and just to listen to him interview people like Joe and ask
him stuff like "How long you been growing these punkins?" It was a good
time, great fellowship, and an awesome sight to bring those second and
third best of the patch to if you just cant get enough of the weigh
offs, and want one last one to get to.
Next year, the site coordinators are looking to make it bigger, but
staying independent to keep it on Sunday.
Thanks to all growers who came, I am currently working on upating the
PGPGA site, and putting this Elmira page together on my website. Only
363 days until next years weigh off, I got to keep working!
