Hmmm... since my soil is naturally very alkaline, this might
be a good thing...

From the master composter site:

"Can be composted in the pile as a carbon. Will take a while to compost.
They are acidic, but as long as the majority of your pile is not pine
needles or other acidic ingredients, the composting process should
balance the pH."

Hi all,

I've found the motherlode of fallen leaves. All I have
to do is scoop it up and bring it home. Mixed in with
the leaves, however are ponderosa pine needles (the long
needles, 3 to 4 inches). They're at least a year old,
perhaps more.

I know that one must avoid fresh pine, as it can
sterilize the soil. How long do you wait before allowing
these pine needles into the garden?
