Hi List
How much does compost alter the ph of soil? My new garden is 1200 square feet and has a high clay content. Earlier this year I added 9 yards of screened topsoil and tilled it. I also plan on getting 4 yards of compost in the next week (50% cow manure/50% yard waste) to add to my garden. Do you think that is enough? I'm currently in the process of having my soil ph tested, but I wondered how much the compost would lower the ph, if any? How much limestone would I need to use to counteract that?
Also, I am having some severe drainage problems with my new garden. We got some rain about 3 days ago and I still have some standing water out there. I want to improve the drainage for next season. What can I do?
Thanks,
Steve Green
