Tom Borchard sponsored the Third Annual California State Giant
Pumpkin Weigh Off at Borchard Farms yesterday. California
growers showed up in droves with 50 to 60 pumpkins and squash
looking for a piece of the action.
Partial Results were:
PUMPKIN:
1. Vince Zunino - 889 lbs. (831 Zunino)
2. Greg Stucker - 841 lbs. (801 Stelts)
3. Gary Miller - 831 lbs.
4. Eric Carson - 801 lbs. (1262 Emmons)
SQUASH:
1. Gary Miller - 668 lbs.
2. Jeff Johnson - 591 lbs.
3. Jose Ceja - 576 lbs.
4. Walt Dagel - 546 lbs.
For those out of you out there who like them big, orange and
high on both ends, the 889 Zunino (Buttercup) was all that and
5% heavy - even though she sat in my driveway for the last
month. She was grown from the 831 Zunino on a 450 square foot
plant.
Anyone out there have the full top ten results from the weigh
off??
