Former southern champion Wallace Simmons is this year's Southern Cup winner with a new all-time record of 860 lbs.! We will have to wait for pictures and the "rest of the story" when Wallace and Mary get back from the North Carolina State Fair where their 817 is on display. I for one can't wait to hear that story for Wallace had all-together 9 pumpkins over 600 lbs. this season! Stay tuned.

Director of the Southern Cup

Hi, we're getting ready to go out of town to the State Fair for two days (have the 817 pounder there) but will send you the story with pictures when we get back. We were very glad to have 9 pumpkins over 600 pounds, it was quite a year for us. We even had some candy roasters in the 120 pound range, which we think may be at least competitive on a record but can't seem to find any information, even the guy that keeps the records said he doesn't keep them on candy roasters. We gave one roaster to a friend who helps us load our pumpkins and he has made 5 pies so far and said he had enough in his freezer to make pies all winter long. Our 5 year old planted flowers right next to one of the pumpkin plants (in fact they are surrounded by the pumpkin vines) and he has zinnias over 6
feet tall. He's as proud of those flowers as my husband is of those pumpkins & he told Wallace to make his pumpkins stop attacking the flowers. Thanks again, will get back to you when we return, Mary

Wallace and Mary,

Well congratulations on winning the Southern Cup - AGAIN! Could you guys give me the lowdown on how it all happened - sounded like a fantastic year all around. It will take me some time to get back the cup from Steve Cline from WV so be patient. I will announce you as the winner in the next couple of days. It would be nice to have your story before that. Be waitin!

Great year!
Joe

Hi, look forward to hearing from you, Wallace plans on taking his 817 to the NC State Fair. It measured slightly bigger and is his first pumpkin that weighed light. We grew another one that the boys helped to raise that measured out at 675 that weighed 770. All of this rain must have helped in the south--several big pumpkins in surrounding states but nothing that we've heard of that is that big. Thanks, Mary

860 is a new record for sure. I will be in touch only by tomorrow morning but write anyway. We still have to wait until the 16th.

Hi, two different pumpkins (two different genetics), two different places weighed. Had a third one, 805 pounds which was weighed at our county fair, which is sitting in our front yard at the moment. Gotta run, but we'll be back online later this PM. The boys have a
baseball game shortly, take care, Mary

Are you speaking of the same pumpkin 817-860 weighed at two different places or two pumpkins?
This is great either way!

Hi, that's us, 817 at Allardt and 860 weighed in at The Farm Fresh Market in Kannapolis NC, a personal best and new southern record (I think). We have had a great season with quite a few over 600 pounds & 700 pounds. We have been looking for your address, I knew I had saved it somewhere and couldn't come up with it, so Wallace contacted Bob Attaway who sent us this email address. Wallace has been crossing his fingers about winning back "The Cup" so he can move my collectibles off of the mantel and devote it to the trophy :) Let us know if you hear of anything else weighing in bigger, I haven't heard of anything so far. Take care, Mary

Sure is. How did you do this year? I believe the largest Southern Pumpkin is 815 so far weighed at Allardt.

Best,
Joe
