HMB pics

I was reviewing the very nice display and variety of photos on the HMB website ( http://www.hmbfestival.com/WebW/index.htm ) and noticed something. What kind of measuring are the judges doing in some of those pictures? It isnt proper OTT measurements, I was curious if you west coast peopkle now have a new measuring style. It seems the tape is being brought around the bottom of the fruit all the way to the top, attempting to get a circumference of some sort.

Any input to this would be greatly appreciated.

The pumpkins looked great, but I want to know who grew some of those amazingly gorgeous (obviously polished) orange ones that are in there.
