Another pumpkin record to fall

Next Saturday another pumpkin record is scheduled to go down, when
Glenda Castelli bakes what should be the world's largest pumpkin pie.
The piecrust will be made with 8 pounds of butter, 14 pounds of sugar
and two eggs. Lest you think that the 2 eggs will get lost among all
that butter and sugar, fear not - these are ostrich eggs.
More than 12 gallons of pumpkin will be used for the filling, along with
8 gallons of milk, another 224 eggs and 42 pounds of sugar, plus
cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves measured by the cup, not the
spoonful.
The 6-foot pan has sleeves built into it for the forklift blades. The
pie will bake for 5 hours.
All this will be done, appropriately, in the town of Windsor. Not
Windsor, Nova Scotia, birthplace of the AG, but Windsor, California. You
Napa and Boonville and Elk Grove and Mountain View growers are welcome
to come by for a taste at next Sunday's Farmers Market at the Windsor
Town Green.
There will also be a prize for the largest pumpkin, taped not weighed.
