Seeds and soil preparation
Hi all, my name is Brian Reid. The 2004 year will be my first attempt at
growing an Atlantic Giant. I have grown Big Max pumpkins for the past
few years with some success but the size potential of the Atlantic's
have sucked me in. If you don't mind, I have a few questions I hope
someone may be able to answer.
First, I have approximately 300 square feet of space available and was
wondering how many plants I should plan on planting in an area that
size? I realize this isn't a lot of room but it's all I have! From what
I've read, one plant can consume that amount of space pretty easily but
I'm interested in hearing a few opinions on this.
Second, What sort of soil preparation do you pro's recommend? I have
been reading quite a bit on the subject but it seems no one can agree on
what is the "best" way to go about it. I'm just looking for some general
guidelines to help a beginner like me produce a large pumpkin.
Third, When do you all normally buy your seeds? I have looked over John
Dill's site and didn't see any seeds with genetics listed for sale. Any
recommended sites?
I appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thanks for your time, Brian.
