re: note the selfed and near selfed seeds producing big ones this year! (1142, 1145, etc.)


I haven't seen a whole lot of data on crosses yet (come on, guys!), but I think that I'm already starting to see a pattern of big ones coming out of selfed seeds.  What do you all think?
The 1142 VanKooten was grown from the 1066 Vezzolo, which is a selfed 845 Bobier, and the 1145 Summers squash (come on, that was definitely a pumpkin! (26% green, maybe) came from the 975 Summers which, if my memory hasn't faded, is a 1038 EmmonsX1005Mombert (and both of those seeds are 723X846/846X723, I believe.)  The Beachy 1097.5 is also a 723X845 (I think) , which is basically a sib, in my opinion.  I'd say that seed has now "proven itself," don't ya think?!!
