Pretty on the Outside

Texas had a pretty OK first run on the big ones, and there are three still
trying to orange-up.
My problem is that many babies self-aborted and the others rotted from the
inside out at around 100 pounds and simply collapsed.
I feel that I did everything correctly as to create God's own compost and
soil. It was an unusually mild summer, typically in the 80's and 90's with
little rain during the growing season. I often watered in the evening or after
dark and when I could during the day. There was never any standing water and
no sign of fungus or disease as I used Daconil regularly, even in the drench.
Of the lost beauties, there was often no sign of a problem until I saw a tiny
hole at the bud end and by then half of the inside was mush. Even the stems of
the deceased were solid and healthy.
Any ideas or comments?
Based on the info is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Thanks
Rich in Texas

My Bhaskaran was the biggest and beautifullest before the end,
The last Zunino "Baby Beluga" is big and crusty, but holding it's own,
and The Chambers DID NOT like Wimberley Texas but has two fairly large and
crazy funky shaped "things" starting to turn orange.
