AG Updates
Hello Fellow Fanatics
Now that most weigh-offs are over it is time for me to make this annual
reminder, and for you to take a look at www.ipga.us and click on "All-time
Top Ten"
There you will see a listing of the alltime top 10 official pumpkins from
some 40 Canadian Provinces,USA States and a few European countries.
You can see the top weights, who grew them, the contest location and where the
grower lives.
Now is the time to get your 2006 contenders into your "contact person" so
that person can make the summary for Jim Gatewood (IPGA) to list. Thanks
again Jim for updating and maintaining your fantastic list.Isn't email the
greatest thing since sliced bread?
Comments:
1.After 2005 there were only 14 pounds between the top region (Ontario) and
#6 rank (Rhode Island). Will RI rise to the top of the pile this year? I
predict the answer is Yes.Stay tuned.
2.The top 10 average most likely depends on the climate and the number of
growers in a region.
3.The number of new 2006 pumpkins in the top ten in a region, likely
indicates what sort of year that region experienced weatherwise vs past
years.
4.The indication of progress in a region is relative to other regions. If a
state, province or country rises from #30 rank to #28,for example, then it is
advancing in the AG world.
5.Each year there will be advances and retreats of rank.It is all very
interesting and after the 2006 results are all in you will be able to read
many more things into the data yourself.
A mystery;
Some giant pumpkin regions are not yet listed on www.ipga.us .For example,I
don't see Tennessee and I know there has been a weigh-off site at Allardt,TN
dating back to the 1980s.
Also I know there was a new state record there this year of 1078 pounds I
think.
Is there not somebody in TN who can start a list of the top ten? Why not
just start a list with what you know about and let others update it? Maybe
start with 5 if you don't know 10.With email it would not take long for a
few top growers to get the ball rolling to see the AG picture in TN.
Once started the list is easy to update each year.
Any other AG growing, but not yet listed provinces, states or
countries(Australia??)can show pride in their accomplishments by showing the
world their results on the top 10 list.
You as an individual grower can make a difference in these cases.
Yours Sincerely--Al Eaton
