Genetic (IMO) with growing conditions having a smaller impact on the Dill
ring pumpkin's outcome on the scale. Some seeds just seem to always produce
rings.
That said, I've grown fruit with dill rings that when cut open didn't pose
significant risk of failure at the growth rate we encountered (900lbs). It
is anyone's guess what may have happened if the same fruit had gone over
1300.

Are Dill rings genetic or caused by poor growing practices?
