I have been a member of this list for a few years, seldom post, but always reading with interest of everyone's trials and tribulations trying for "the big one". Not got into the 1000lb category myself but "there's always next year".
But this last post I found truly insulting. Lets just talk about pumpkins folks - it is what brought us here. Lynn In Canada On 1-Oct-10, at 4:14 PM, Steve Haberman wrote:
Minor,Didn't know about the Canadian heritage. I won't hold it against you. I always thought there would be a list of things that would be some advantagesof a USA, Canada merger:1) The US would have one hell of a lumber yard.....oh yah, already there.2) My kids would finally have a good hockey coach. 3) The Canadian flag is truly cool eah! 4) Walleye, walleye, walleye! 5) Canadian proof beer.....in a 12oz bottle! 6) The weather makes Indiana look like Florida. 7) "We" would finally be producing oil. 8) I love DOUGHNUTS!!!! 9) The Canadians would have the right to bear arms.10) We could send the Border Patrol to the Mexican side where it is actually&^%$#@#@!# NEEDED. Yahoo mail really did a strange one that time. No. It was not the Canadian beer talking. lol. --- On Fri, 10/1/10, Steve Minor <minok2014@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Steve Minor <minok2014@yahoo.com> Subject: RE: Buying seeds To: pumpkins@hort.net Date: Friday, October 1, 2010, 2:43 PM Steve, Latest update: 4 pumpkins @400-600 lbs, 2 molested by a squirrel(s).Waiting for torrential rains to abate so I canapply fungicides to gnaw marks. Don't ask/don't tell policy in effect concerning the "cute little squirrels."Note to self: Keep multiple bird feedersfull of sunflower seeds to distract hungry rodents of all types. Surround AGs with multiple traps/substances after fruiting to minimize attack by said rodents. Steve(the Terminator) Minor PS: Vermont weigh off in 1 week. Pictures to follow. --- On Fri, 10/1/10, Steve Haberman <shaberman@insmgt.com> wrote: From: Steve Haberman <shaberman@insmgt.com> Subject: RE: Buying seeds To: pumpkins@hort.net Date: Friday, October 1, 2010, 2:01 PM Minor, Good to see you are still breathing. Many clubs across the USA give away seeds each year as part of the membership benefits. Memberships start as low as $15/year. Members of the bigpumpkins.com website give away free seeds every yearstarting in late October for the price of a self-addressed, stamped bubbleenvelope. If you want seeds from a specific grower for a special pumpkin they have grown, don't be afraid to ask, then send in the SASE if the grower says yes.You can also get great seeds free through this forum. I gave away seedsthisspring to at least half a dozen growers, and other people have done thesame. If you still want to buy seeds, in spite of all the free ones available, postanother message on this forum, and I, for one, will give you several sourceswhere you can spend good money to get good seeds. Or you can buy seeds online anytime of year. Growers are really generous people. Most of them will give you seeds for free if you send them a self-addressed, stamped bubble envelope for the return trip. What are you trying to accomplish? If you are trying to grow the biggest pumpkin you can, you are better off researching particular seeds rather than the best supplier. Places like pumpkinlink.com can help you find out what seeds have grown the most big offspring. Unless you are more looking for a lot of seeds for some type of group project? Then you might want to checkout beachyseeds.com or howarddill.com. On Fri, Oct 1, 2010 at 6:11 AM, Stephen Dollimore <stephen@dollimore.ca>wrote:When is the best time to buy seeds?
