I wanted to thank all of you on the list for your support, guidance and gentle
nudging. I took Clyde to the Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm Weigh-off in Illinois
yesterday and he weighed 682 lbs. I was completely caught off guard since I
taped him at approx. 609 lbs, approx. 12% heavy. I know pumpkins go heavy or
light and that 12% isn't that much, but it was awesome.
Two years ago I grew a 312 lb pumpkin and was thrilled. Last year as some may
recall, my plants never got past the starting gate so I took an unintended year
off. This year my goal was 500 lbs. which some neighbors and friends thought
was nuts. "You must be crazy or addicted, Debbie". They sure enjoyed watching
Clyde grow and grow this year. They also enjoyed bragging about it and bringing
their friends and family over. The most was 10 people one day when the neighbor
was having a party. I enjoyed sharing my limited knowledge with them. Even
told them I would give them seeds once I harvest and dry them.
It's been a hell of a ride - Second year growing, exceeding my goal, first
weigh-off and personal best. Oh, and did I mention that I won $100 for best
looking pumpkin????
The list gave me a lot of advice, most of which I took and the rest I should
have taken. I could not have done it without you! Thank you!
Debbie
