Detailed Rules:
Again in 1998 I'll take it upon myself to enter the names of all individual
pumpkin growers who
send me $11.00 U.S. or $15.50 CDN along with I.D. Info. as follows: Last
Name, First Name &
Middle Initial, Phone #, Address, Country. before August 1st. 1998.
($10.00 US ($14.00 CDN) for
the prize stake and $1 US ($1.40 CDN) for entry, coordination and mailing
costs. Entries must be
received by August 1st 1998. $10 U.S. per entry received will be given
equally back (33.33% of the
monies received each) to Three Grower Entrants (on November 15th. 1998) as
follows: On September
1st 1998 we will randomly select Three Weight Positions from the total
number of entries received.
(i.e. if there are 1000 entries in total we will randomly select three
numbers between 0 and 1001.
These numbers might be 235, 967, and 5 for example. After the weights of
the pumpkins are entered
in the chart in October (or before) then those entrants who end up in the
three random positions will be
awarded the $3,333.33 each (this monetary value is only valid, of course,
if we get exactly 1000
entries) . Weights will entered to the nearest whole number (pound) and any
fractional weights will be
rounded down. If more than one entry satisfies the random winning weight
position then those entries
will share the prize for that position. If we do not receive weights for
each entry and one of the
positions is not filled then a second random draw (limited to the number of
weights received by Oct.
31,1998) will be conducted to award the remaining monies. In total three
prizes (or more based on
ties) will be awarded in 1998. Weighins must be at Official Local Weighoff
Sites (i.e. Local Fairs,
GPC sites, etc.) taking place after January 1st 1998 and before October
25th 1998. Funds will be held
in Trust locally at the Royal Bank in a Grower's Prize Stake US $ Bank
Account. Removal of Funds
from this account will only be by a triply signed cheque from: Al Eaton,
Paul McIntyre and Bob
Marcellus. Entries received from anywhere in the world will be eligible to
receive the 1998 Grower's
Prize Stake. Names will be posted on the Ottawa St. Lawrence Grower's web
site @
http://infoweb.magi.com/~farmrgus/ at the end of April, June, and August.
It will be the grower's
responsibility to insure that their name is on the list (by checking into
the web site) and to insure that
they have proof that they have sent in their money. (Only Cheques or Money
Orders: made payable
to "The 1998 Growers Prize Stake"will be accepted (keep your receipt). If
you see that your name is
not on the list at the end of August 1998, then you will be responsible
for contacting Bob in writing
before the 30th of September 1998 with proof that you did send in your
money on time (and a
replacement Cheque or Money Order). I will not assume any responsibility
whatsoever for your name
not getting on the list and names will be posted alphabetically. (Even
though this should not be too
hard to coordinate since we will have $11.(US)/grower and the total number
of growers should match
with the total number of US dollars/11. At times however mail does get
lost.) In 1997 (the initial year
of the contest) the contest will distribute $430 (US) to the 1st place and
the 25th placed entrants (or
$215/winner). For 1998 Bob will coordinate the 1998 Grower's Prize Stake.
He will do this even if
only three growers enter. Note: He will also be participating in the 1998
Grower's Stake as will Al
Eaton and Paul McIntyre. Growers also note to ensure that your individual
weighoff results get
submitted to Bob before the End of October 1998. For this we require a
signed copy from the
agricultural representative at the weighoff site that your pumpkin(s)
weighed ____ lbs. (P.S.
also include the over the top measurements of your pumpkin at the weighoff
if they are available). In
1998 both Pumpkins and Squash qualify for the 1998 Grower's Prize Stake.
Since most of us know that we may never set a world's record due to the
limited amount of time that
we can spend in our pumpkin Patches, this is why Bob has decided to
coordinate this contest which
gives every entry an equal chance. Multiple entries per grower are allowed
as long as the pumpkins or
squash are weighed in at official local sites.
So let's make it more interesting again in 1998!
