Other stuff

Me? Well I'm 65, a retired logger, an my two main achievements this year
were :

1. Running a marathon yesterday. I came in 1539th with a time of 4:28. Not
as well as I would of liked, but hey - I'm not as young as I used to be -
and I finished!

2. Growing a 300 pound pumpkin on a city lot. A 449 Marcellus, it was
bigger than I had hoped for, even if it does have a disqualifying stem
split. It now sits forlornly on the lawn, (the vine already composted), as
I await our local weighoff on October 25th. I'll take it in as an exhibit
and for an official weight. Then, after saving the seeds, I'll donate it
to a local civic group for their Halloween party.

I appreciate what I've learned from you all. Next year though I think
I'll hedge my bets by going for 2 pumpkins on the one plant, use less
chemical fertilizer, (maybe go completely organic), and spread more
temporary soil on the lawn for secondary root formation.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving,
