Duncan,
Can the News Media ever get it straight?
I did not win 3rd place at the Half Moon Bay Weigh Off. My pumpkin had a
small pinhole in it approximately the size of
2 - B.B.'s. I removed a captan patch over the wound with the assistance of
Kurt Mombert in the a.m. just before the weigh off began. Kurt gave me a
piece of wire we probed the hole and determined it went through to the
seed cavity.
I asked that I be disqualified from the competition. There seemed to be
confusion over this request and my pumpkin was weighed as a legal entry,
simple mistake, I was just seeking an unofficial weight!
During the awards ceremony I requested my pumpkin be removed from the
competition and that all prizes & awards go to next in line, I forfeited
3rd place and the $500 dollars, also another $500 for heaviest pumpkin in
California. Kurt Mombert placed 3rd at Half Moon Bay! Dave Gowen of Philo
California placed 5th and also was awarded heaviest pumpkin in California!
