Hi All,
Well its been a while, but here I am again. The Oregon update for the first
time since Scar went down has some good news. I managed to crack the 700
Pound Club for the first time. The pumpkin named Halibutt alias 'The Blob II'
and 'Nerf" Was weighed in on Saturday and went 90 pounds over chart to nab 8th
place at 720 pounds. This was on the #697 Ciliberto plant which I removed the
center root from in early July (Yep, it was a stumpless wonder). I crossed it
back with the #567.5 Mombert, so the combination of heavy to chart and good
cross leaves me quite optimistic about the seeds.
Here is the lineup so far from 1998....
The #720 "Halibutt" #697 Ciliberto x #567.5 Mombert 8th at GPC site,
Carnation.
The #662 "Wart" #827 Holland x #627.5 Hester Blossom end split Aug. 17th
The #608 "Scar" #627.5 Hester x #827 Holland Blossom end split Aug. 11th
The #557 "Nameless" #827 Holland x #627.5 Hester Cross rib split Aug 12th
The #513 "Glob" #567.5 Mombert x #825 Shymanski Stem split Sept. 3rd
In a season with my nice ones splitting apart I am very happy to get a 700+ in
the books. Sad part is, Scar would have made it by August 15th. I will stick
to my earlier thoughs and say 1998 was a good year. With 4 more pumpkins of
note and three more weighoffs to attend who knows. I may add another to that
500+ pound list from my patch.
Good Luck, and Ready those seeds, its nearly trading time, Wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!
