weigh-off

I have to say, we had a ball at the weigh off in Carnation. It was so much
fun meeting so many really nice pumpkin people and seeing all the great
pumpkins! Even though we had 2 of the SMALLEST pumpkins on the block, it
was worth it! We found out we did nearly everything wrong...but what the
heck, it was the first time and Robert's first EVER garden. Now, he is
busily planning all his soil amendments, etc. I have to say, even for a 76
pound pumpkin, I don't think a more PROUD grower could exist! He was so
happy with his pumpkin! (me too!)
Many thanks to Jack Breckenridge for the book (it is hilarious!). I enjoyed
meeting Shellie, Chris Michalec (who supplied us with male flowers) and
several others. Thanks for all the advice and growing tips, too! We look
forward to the next event and as a final note, we are begging for seeds!
Unfortunately, we didn't know any better and grew from the commerically
available AG seeds this year! Now, we know about the genetics and linage,
etc. It is amazing how so many keep such great parentage records on the
pumpkins. When you are breeding for size, that is so important. Anyway,
thanks again everyone for a great Saturday. Remember, we are open to all
advice, tips, etc. Anyone have a troy built rototiller for sale? We are
looking for one - even if it doesn't have an engine!
